  • Kingsbury County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship is available to any child or grandchild of a current active or associate member of the KCCA. Two $250 scholarships can be used at any accredited university or technical school. More information and an application are available here.   • Horton Machine Tool Technology Scholarship will be offered for up to two deserving students enrolled in a Machine Tool Technology related program. The scholarship provides for tuition, books, and related academic fees up to $3,500 for a full time student for one academic year. Applications available in counselor's office.   • Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow Scholarship is being funded once again by Farmers Union Insurance agents for members of the graduating class of 2012. This program provides 25 $1000 scholarships to students who choose to pursue their post-secondary education at a South Dakota college, university, or trade school.   • KXLG Radio Scholarship from Watertown Community Foundation is in honor of David J. Law. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Senior who is a resident of South Dakota within a 60 mile radius of Watertown, South Dakota. The recipient will be attending a post secondary institution majoring in journalism or a related field of study. Applications available here.   • South Dakota Society for Technology in Education (SDSTE) is pleased to announce the availability of two scholarships in the amount of $500. The scholarship is open to any graduating High School Senior enrolling in or who has gained acceptance to a post secondary educational institution in the field of Educational or Informational Technology. The student must also have a current member of SDSTE employed in his/her school district or have a parent who is a current member of SDSTE.   • Curtis Marvin Hohn Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior of a South Dakota who is planning on attending a public or private college, or technical school in South Dakota, and pursuing studies in history, political science, or water resources related studies.   • SDFU Foundation Scholarship Farmers Union Insurance, in cooperation with the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation, is proud to renew its commitment to the “Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow” scholarship program for 2012. For the fifth straight year, $25,000 in scholarships will be awarded to South Dakota high school seniors. Twenty-five high school seniors from across the state who plan to continue post-secondary education at a college, university, or technical school in the state of South Dakota will each receive $1,000.     The scholarships are funded with support from Farmers Union Insurance agents in South Dakota and the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation. The application deadline is April 15, 2012. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the applicant’s academic records, school and community involvement, and financial need. The applicant will also be required to submit a written essay entitled, “How do you hope to impact a Brighter Tomorrow in South Dakota?”

    Applicants Must Meet One of the Following Requirements:
    • South Dakota high school senior whose parent or parents are current policyholders of Farmers Union Insurance
    • Member of South Dakota Farmers Union
    • A “Friend of the Farmers Union Foundation” (Defined as those who have contributed $25 or more to the Foundation in the past year)
    • Participant in any South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) sanctioned event

  • Kayla Cleveland Memorial Scholarship The family of Kayla Cleveland has established a scholarship in memory of their daughter. As a student of one of the schools that participated in the "Playin' With An Angel" basketball tournament, De Smet seniors are eligible for the scholarship.   • SDACDE Karst Scholarship The South Dakota Association of Conservation District employees set up the Karst Memorial Scholarship in 1995 in memory of a fellow employee, David Karst, who passed away in 1992. The SDACDE is offering four $300 scholarships. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage those students concerned with conserving their natural resources by furthering their education in an agricultural related field. The scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors who will be attending a 4-year college or a vocational school. Applications available in counselor's office.   • Kingsbury Conservation District Scholarship is available again this year. Applicants must be a current year graduate of a South Dakota High School. The applicant shall have graduated in the upper 50% of the class. The applicant will be a student going into an agricultural related field. Four $250 scholarships are offered. The amount of the scholarship is to be paid upon completion of 2nd semester registration. Applications available in counselor's office. Scholarship Deadline - March 31, 2012

 

  • AES Scholarship is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students. To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on the site at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. The scholarship is worth $500.   • Dakota Credit Unions' High School Financial Scholarship Credit Union Association of the Dakotas will award ten $500 scholarships for applicants that exemplify the union philosophy of "people helping people" through volunteering, community service, and leadership. Five scholarships will be awarded to North Dakota high school graduates and five to South Dakota high school graduates. Scholarships will be awarded upon the successful completion of the first semester of college. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a credit union member, and a graduating high school senior. Applicant must also be planning to attend a two or four year post-secondary accredited university or a technical/vocational school. Credit union must be affiliated with the CU Assoc. of the Dakotas.   • Dakotaland Federal Credit Union Academic Scholarship There will be five scholarships awarded in the amount of  $1,000 each. Applicants must be a member of Dakotaland FCU. Applicants must be going to attend an accredited University, College, or Technical Institute. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, have previously completed high school, or be currently attending a college, university or technical institute. Scholarship Deadline - February 22, 2012

 

  • Buick Achievers Scholarship rewards 1,100 students from across the country who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and in the community, and lack the financial resources to attend college. The scholarship program provides up to $25,000 a year to 100 students, renewable for up to four years and one additional year for five-year engineering programs. An additional 1,000 students receive a one-time $2,000 award. The program is funded by the GM Foundation and is among the largest awarded over multiple years. "Special consideration is given to students who are military personnel, veterans or their dependents, as well as women and other minority groups," said GM Foundation Chairman Bob Ferguson. "This ensures that we help build a strong and diverse manufacturing work force that will ultimately strengthen our nation's global competitiveness." In 2011, scholarships were awarded in all 50 states and nearly half were given to students who were the first in their families to attend college.   • Healthcare Students Scholarship is exclusively for U.S. students pursuing a degree that will help combat nursing home abuse. The $5,000 scholarship will cover non-tuition related expenses such as rent, childcare, textbooks, utilities and groceries for the 2012-2013 academic year.   • Marion T. Wood Scholarship is for $500 and will be awarded to a student who intends to continue in an office-related business program. The application of the winner of this state scholarship will be submitted to the National Association of Educational Office Professionals for consideration of a $1,000 national scholarship.   • Northern Plains Eye Foundation (NPEF) $1,000 Health-Care Education Scholarships is for high school seniors planning to enter full-time, post high school education in health-care related studies. Scholarships are awarded based on criteria such as overall academic merit, extracurricular and health-care related activities, leadership, teacher recommendations, and planned health-care or eye-related course of study. Applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.8 and a minimum ACT score of 28. Applications with scores less than the stated minimum will not be accepted.   • $5,000 Credit Union College Scholarship Program for 2012 is now underway! College-bound members are eligible to apply for one of five $1,000 essay-based scholarships. Applications are now available and can be downloaded at www.dakotalandfcu.com or picked up at any of their eight branches. Scholarship Deadline - February 22, 2012

 

  • Huron Area Community Theater Scholarship was established to assist students who have shown support of the theater and their community in obtaining post secondary education. Students applying for the scholarship must be 24 years of age or younger and must attend a post secondary, undergraduate educational program at a technical school or college. The minimum award will be $50 and the maximum award will be $500. For an application, click here. Scholarship Deadline - April 1, 2012

 

  • Michael J. Entringer Scholarships The financial scholarships are awarded in memory of Mike Entringer with proceeds from the annual Mike Entringer Basketball Classics sponsored by the Region II South Dakota High School Basketball Officials. The student must be a graduating senior from a school in the Region II basketball area. The student must also have participated in high school sports for two or more years, and exhibited good sportsmanship. Participation includes athletes, cheerleaders, student managers and statisticians. The scholarship funds must be used for post secondary education expenses in the first year following graduation.   • Grand Lodge Scholarship Program is now available. Applications will be received only from applicants who are bona fide residents of the State of South Dakota and have a Masonic connection, either by blood or marriage. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need and who plan to attend a public or private college, university or technical school in South Dakota. Scholarships will be awarded in the minimum amount of $1,000 each. Scholarships will be granted for one year only, but any student may apply every year for a maximum of five years. Applications for scholarships will be submitted to the Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee for final screening and selection. Scholarship Deadline - March 15, 2012

 

  • Kingbrook Rural Water System, Inc. is offering four $500 scholarships. Applicant must be a member or a child of a member of Kingbrook Rural Water System. Students living in area towns served by Kingbrook through a bulk water contract are not eligible. Currently those towns are Arlington, Badger, Lake Preston, Montrose, Winfred, Bancroft, Lake Norden, Oldham, Iroquois and Howard. In some cases, a student may live in one of the towns listed but may be a member of Kingbrook at a different location, e.g. lake home or pasture tap. In this instance, that student would qualify.   • Minnesota-Dakotas District of Kiwanis offers one-time scholarship of at least $1000 each to high school seniors in each of the three state Kiwanis District. A maximum of 3 students in your school may apply. Applicants must be legal residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota and must be a graduating senior from a 4 yr. high school. Awards are based on scholastic ability, need and seriousness of purpose. Scholarship Deadline - January 25, 2012

 

  • Ashley and Amanda Loban Memorial Scholarship - Two scholarships will be awarded in remembrance of Ashley and Amanda Loban, whose young lives were cut short by a fatal automobile accident in May 2006 in Brookings County. Scholarships will be awarded to one Brookings High School student and another South Dakota High School student who will be full time first year students at a post-secondary school in fall 2012.

     

    The Ashley and Amanda Loban Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students based on acts of kindness, good citizenship and humanitarianism and the impact of these acts on the applicant’s school and/or community. Students of all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, but please note the scholarship is not based strictly on academic performance.

     

    Applicants must be nominated by an adult in a supervisory position at school, work, church or extracurricular activity. Letters of nomination are to be no more than 500 words and must be submitted along with the Nominee Information Form. The application process, requirements and forms can be found online at www.aaloban.com.

     

    The Nominee Information Form and Letter of Nomination MUST be postmarked on or before March 2, 2012 and should be mailed to Loban Memorial Inc, PO Box 8091, Brookings SD 57006.   • Amateur Softball Scholarship Application is for any graduating senior who has been involved in the South Dakota ASA program, or who has a parent/guardian who has participated in this program in the last 3 years. There are possibly 17 scholarships given out each year by the South Dakota ASA and the Sioux Falls People For Youth Committee. Each scholarship will be a total of $500.   • Mitchell Tech - New Scholarship Opportunities

    Star Scholars – If a student has an ACT score of 24 or higher and a high school GPA of 3.0 when accepted to an MTI program, the student will receive $1,000 for the first semester! If the student enrolls in one of MTI’s Spotlight Programs the $1,000 can be turned into $2,000.
     
    The Star Scholar award will be applied to the first semester’s tuition bill. If the student successfully completes the first year of a Spotlight Program with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, $1,000 will be awarded for the fall semester of the second year also.

    MTI Legacy – If a parent, step-parent, grandparent or sibling of a student graduated from Mitchell Tech or is currently enrolled at MTI, the student’s legacy status can earn up to $1,000 to help with the cost of the education at MTI. Upon verification of the legacy graduation or attendance, the student will be awarded $500 when entering MTI. Complete the first year of a two-year program with a 2.5 GPA or higher and the award can be renewed for another $500 the second year!

    Ag EDGE Credit – Mitchell Tech will accept up to 10 credits of state-approved courses the student has completed in the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources cluster! The student will earn $200 toward spring semester tuition for each secondary credit earned with a “B” or better. So, if the student has completed 10 credits with a “B” or better, we’ll give the student $2,000!

  • Eastern Chapter of the South Dakota Engineering Society is currently offering scholarships for high school seniors applying to engineering colleges. $2,000 Engineering Scholarships for 2012 High School Graduates who will be attending South Dakota Engineering Schools (South Dakota State University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology). Applicants will be judged on national standard test scores, transcripts, extracurricular activities, and answers to questions on the application. The application form is available at www.sdes.org.   • Basin Electric Power Cooperative is again this year offering $1,000 college scholarships to more than 160 students in the eight-state region served by its members. Each of the 127 member cooperatives of Basin Electric, including Kingsbury Electric Cooperative, Inc., will award a scholarship to a dependent of a consumer. In addition, 20 scholarships will be awarded to dependents of member-system employees, and 20 will go to dependents of employees of Basin Electric and its subsidiaries. Applicants for the scholarships must be U.S. Citizens, dependent children of consumers residing on Kingsbury Electric Cooperative lines, and enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores and overall grade-point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a personal statement of career goals, financial need, and a written recommendation by a third party. The runner up will be eligible to participate in the Rural Electric Youth Tour. This is a weeklong trip sponsored by Kingsbury Electric and coordinated by the South Dakota Rural Electric Association. During the week, participants learn about the Washington D.C. area, U.S. government, the cooperative philosophy and rural electrification.   • Big Sun Scholarship is proud to continue to help young athletes in their academic pursuits. They are offering an annual scholarship  of $500 to a deserving student. The applicant must be a high school senior or attending a post-secondary school and he or she must be involved in some sport.   • Horatio Alger Association Scholarships Program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.   • Yankton College Scholarship Program can help shape a student's education by awarding $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors attending an accredited college or university.   • Thelma Foster Scholarship For Senior Members - American Legion Auxiliary shall award a $300 scholarship as a gift, not a loan. The applicant must have been a member of the South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary for the past three years and a current Senior member this year. The applicant must enroll in an accredited school, university or technical institute to further education. Applications and further information are available from your guidance counselor.   • Thelma Foster Scholarship For Junior Members - American Legion Auxiliary shall award annually a $300 scholarship as a gift, not a loan. The applicant shall be a Junior member of the South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary, and have held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three years and must now hold a Junior membership card for the current year, or have turned 18 years of age during senior year of school. The applicant cannot have attended an institution of higher learning. Applications and further information are available from your guidance counselor. Scholarship Deadline - March 1, 2012

 

  • $500 Scholarship For College/University Or Technical Institute - American Legion Auxiliary shall award annually two $500 scholarships for a college/university and two $500 scholarships for technical institutions, in order to further education beyond high school level. The applicant shall be 1) the child or grandchild of a veteran or a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 2) 16-22 years of age, 3) financially unable to attend a university or technical institute after graduation from high school, 4) a resident of South Dakota, and 5) a first time winner of this award.   • $400 Senior Member Scholarship - American Legion Auxiliary shall award annually a $400 scholarship to be used for attending either a technical institution or college/university. The applicant must be a Senior member, have been a Junior or Senior member of the South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary for at least three years, be a current member, and be in need of financial assistance. Applications and further information are available from your guidance counselor. Scholarship Deadline - March 1, 2012

 

  • Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards Scholarship is available to any child or grandchild of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2009, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2009. The applicant must also be a high school senior. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elks members, the applicant must use the parent as a sponsor. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may receive only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, ENF awards the scholarship with the greater value. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited U.S. schools, colleges or universities and cannot be used for vocational-technical schools. Applicants must take the SAT or the ACT by December 31, 2011. Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships issued over four years. The Foundation offers a total of 250 awards.   • South Dakota Elks Association Vocational Grant applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited post-secondary technical or vocational program which terminates with completion of that program. Applicants shall have no immediate or long range plans to pursue a baccalaureate degree program. Scholarship Deadline - December 2, 2011

 

  • Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards $2.296 million annually in MVS scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide. The first- and second-place awards are the largest scholarships provided by any major fraternal or service organization. Any high school senior may apply. Applications will be judged on: Scholarship, Leadership, and Financial Need. Applications must be submitted on or before the deadline to the Elks Lodge closest to the student's permanent U.S. residence. The selection of winners begins at the local Lodge level and continues through district, state association and national judging. Applications are available at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm.   • Alert Magazine is again offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors which is awarded to the student who writes the best essay concerning drug or alcohol abuse and its prevention. The scholarship does not have a deadline; all essays are considered on a yearly basis. No application is required, but all instructions listed on the flyer must be followed for the essay to be eligible.   • Epsilon Sigma Alpha Foundation Scholarship is an organization that brings volunteers together to make a positive difference to the world community. It awards over 125 scholarships a year. Students may apply for three of their scholarships, with a full set of documents and fees for each one.   • South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships to applicants whose parents are members of South Dakota Farmers Union. Eligible youth include high school seniors who will be freshman at a post-secondary institution of higher learning and those currently in their freshman year of school at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to high school seniors in awarding the scholarships. Applicants do need to plan to attend an in-state post-secondary school in order to apply for a scholarship. There will be three scholarships in the amount of $1,500 ($500 each) awarded to eligible young people for the year 2012. An application can be obtained by visiting www.sdfu.org.   • Support A Student Scholarship for Single Parents -the first of its kind- was created to financially assist single parents enrolled in a college degree program with an online learning component. Students can submit their applications beginning October 1st. The winner who will be announced on December 1st, 2011, will be awarded $10,000 towards non-tuition related living expenses for the January 2012 academic year including: rent, childcare, books and school supplies, utilities- gas and electric, utilities- internet, and groceries. Any single parent enrolled in a degree program with a significant online component is eligible to apply. The applicant must also be receiving some other type of financial aid.   • AES Engineers Scholarship will be awarding $500 to the winner(s) each year. Students will submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of the website www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Full details are available on the website.   • SDAPHCC Education Foundation Scholarship is intended for those students who wish to have a career in the PHC industry. Students must be sponsored by a SDAPHCC member, and the sponsor must sign the application. Each item must be completed in order for the application to be considered.   • National Merit Scholarship NMSC conducts privately financed annual competitions for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships through its programs. High School students enter these competitions by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test usually as juniors, and meeting other published entry/participation requirements. These requirements are given in the PSAT/NMQT Student Bulletin sent to high schools for distribution to students. The Bulletin explains steps in the NMSC competitions and describes groups of students honored and awards offered; it also provides sample PSAT/NMQT questions with hints and tips for answering them and a practice test for self-scoring. Each year's PSAT/NMQT is the qualifying test designated for entry to particular year's competitions. Junior students who take the PSAT in October receive their test results in December. Those students who have scores which qualify them to be National Merit Scholarship Finalists are notified in September their senior year.
